You Need to See the Left Side of Alessandra Ambrosio’s Sequined Gown, Stat

The stars aligned on Thursday night in Milan as amfAR hosted its ninth gala in the Italian fashion week hub.
The AIDS benefit honored designer Angela Missoni and included a special performance from opera singer Andrea Bocelli. Although the gala was quite the event, the high-fashion red carpet was a glamorous extravaganza on its own.
Attendees included a bevy of sartorial favorites, including Victoria’s Secret Angel Alessandra Ambrosio, who arrived in a sparkly confection unlike anything we’ve ever seen.
Get That Body: Alessandra Ambrosio's Abs
The model’s sequined Julien Macdonald gown straddled the line between mini and maxi. The right side is quite conservative, featuring a full sleeve and floor-sweeping hem. The left, however, is a far different story—Ambrosio’s torso is bare save for one half of a sequined bra and her leg peeks out from a thigh-high slit. The mother of two paired her high-drama look with three-band silver sandals and a delicate silver choker, her long locks pin-straight and parted down the middle.

MTV Movie Awards Red Carpet: The Not-So-Good and What Were They Thinking?!

Proms, Pageant Dresses, Pillow Prints and Pocahontas Platform Heels...With Good Red Carpet, there is inevitably the Not-So-Good...

Jessica Szhor: Gossip Girl actress Jessica Szohr does not get "Two Nick Pinkies" for this paisley print jumpsuit. Yes, I said PAISLEY PRINT & JUMPSUIT...all in one sentence. Poor thang. This was a mess. The fabric is better suited for a Gay Man's Pillow at his Palm Springs "Summer home". And the print--along with the jumpsuit is better suited for my "Imaginary 75 year-old Aunt from Boca". One Plus Point though: Notice how the fabric print matches and miters in the center back seam--now THAT'S quality fabric cutting!

Holland Roden: Teen Wolf actress Holland Roden wore a Jad Ghandour-designed "High-Low" gown that was a bit "I'm Going To A Prom in Glendale" and "Miss Universe Evening Gown Competition" rolled up into one. Now, to those two events, I can see this dress, but to the MTV Movie Awards? Maybe not so much. All that she's missing is a SASH and a Corsage on her wrist. Now, speaking of The Prom...

Crystal Reed: Fellow Teen Wolf actress, Crystal Reed also somehow thought she was going to her high school prom and not the MTV Movie Awards (did her and Holland Roden have the same Prom-obsessed stylist?). She wore a black and white taffeta satin gown from Ina Soltani and frankly, it was straight out of a bad Project Runway Make-A-Dress-Using-Discarded Prom-Dress Fabrics" Episode. What, in the name of Diana Vreeland, are those fan-pleated THINGS at the hem of the dress? And WHY are they there? They almost look like coffee filters! Am I wrong?

Skyler Samuels: The Nine Lives of Chloe King actress Skyler Samuels stepped onto the MTV Movie Awards Red Carpet in the look above. Now, I like the mini-paillette silver & nude strapless mini-dress, and I don't have anything against the platform strappy heels (maybe covered ones might have been a better choice, though). It's...

The HAIR!!! Momma got a bit Kay-Kay-Krazee with the teasing comb and the Elnett. PS: She's sooooo pretty! like a Doll!

Chelsea Handler: I love me some Chelsea Handler. Truly. But this shirred and cowl-necked intentionally wrinkled dress did not make me laugh, smile or want to do shots of Vodka. Gurl....you can do better than this!! I am sure you had many choices and this is what you decided on? Call me or my Fashion PR Company.

Romeo (or Lil' Romeo): OK, let me just say it right here and now--Your Red Carpet Role Model should not be "The Situation"! Lifting up your shirt to expose your abs on the Red Carpet is plain Cheesy. Even if the photographers are SCREAMING for you to lift up your shirt and "Show Us Your Abs!", DON'T do it. Just smile and keep walking. Seriously. I get it, you've got AMAZING abs and I'm jealous but still, tuck your shirt in huney. And BTW: What Louis Vuitton Clip-On accessory is that on his waist? And since when is that fashionable? Oh well, I should just be happy that he actually wore a tie.

Amanda Bynes: Oh huney, let me guess, it's Herve Leger! Of course it is! How, um, well, predictable. Ladies: There are OTHER designers and brands that make sexy skin-tight red carpet dresses. There are. No, really, there are. But I digress. My problem really isn't with the dress, it's how she accessorized it all: THOSE Pocahontas-Goes-To-Vegas shoes so DO NOT belong with this dress but more in a bad "Jersey Shore" event in Atlantic City. And then, that black (?) quilted clutch and white bracelet? It looks as if she went to THREE MTV Gifting Suites, got some stuff for free and decided to wear it all in one quick red carpet swoop. Too much of a mish-mash I think.

So there you have it--did I miss any? Let me know --and also, tell me what you thought of my "Not-So-Good" Picks above...

MTV Movie Awards Red Carpet: Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2011

Supermodel Animal...

Rosie Safari: Model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2011, 2011 MTV Movie Awards Red Carpet

Victoria's Secret Supermodel Rosie Huntington-Whiteley wore a leopard printed Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2011 stretch silk fitted dress. On the actual runway, it was shown below the knee and with flat shoes. Thank God Miss Rosie chose to hike the dress up a bit---and wear it with heels (and I LOVE those heels!). Oh, and not wear that hat! In case you didn't know, it's ALL ABOUT Animal Prints for Fall and next Spring--and leave it to a Victoria's Secret Model to work it! Sexy. Hot.

MTV Movie Awards Red Carpet: Leighton Meester in Balmain Fall 2011

Sequin Girl...

Leighton Meester in Balmain Fall 2011, 2011 MTV Movie Awards Red Carpet

"Gossip Girl"
Actress Leighton Meester worked the 2011 MTV Movie Awards Red Carpet wearing a heavily beaded shift dress by Balmain from the House's Fall 2011 Collection. You can see a "version" of the dress above from the runway. These girls love a shift/tunic dress. Easy-breezy and heck--there's room to eat!!! Love the side-seam pockets (room for lipstick, credit cards and well...never mind). The strappy heels she wore were a much better choice than those white above-the-ankle booties seen on the Balmain Fall 2011 Runway. The clean center-parted hair goes well with such an embellished dress.

Do we like?

Update: Sorry I mistakenly put the wrong Balmain dress in the photo composite above. Same collection different dress. I think both are great!

MTV Movie Awards Red Carpet: Selena Gomez in Giambatista Valli Spring 2011

Mini Cute...

Cute Selena: Selena Gomez in Gianbattista Valli Spring 2011, 2011 MTV Movie Awards

Actress--and Justin Bieber arm-candy Selena Gomez did not wear a dress from her own Kmart "Dream Out Loud" line (why not Selena? Not in your contract?) but instead, wore a dress from Italian Designer Giambatista Valli to the 2011 MTV Movie Awards...It was cute, if not a bit "directional" for her. There are several things going on with this ensemble--the stand-out top, the shirred midriff, and then the mini---but still, it somehow worked on Selena. The matching clutch and pointy heels were great! So bonus points to her--and/or her stylist. The finishing touch, which kept the entire look young, was her hair and make-up. Very Cute. I know "cute" in other instances might not be a good thing--but here, it is...

MTV Movie Awards Red Carpet: Elle Fanning in D&G Spring 2011

Thirteen and in Platforms?

Romper Princess: Actress Elle Fanning in D&G Spring 2011, 2011 MTV Movie Awards

Thirteen year old (I know, SHUT UP!!!) actress (and sister of Dakota) Elle Fanning, wore D&G Spring 2011 to the 2011 MTV Movie Awards tonight. She's like one year younger than my niece, and if I spotted my niece in heels THAT high--well, Uncle Nick might have a problem...But that's neither here nor there. Let's discuss Miss Elle. She wore a printed romper from the lower line of Dolce and Gabbana. It was cute, young and dare I say, age-appropriate. But those heels??? Platform wedges on a thirteen year old? Maybe I am just too much of a fuddy-duddy....
Anyhow--what do you guys think?

MTV Movie Awards Red Carpet: Emma Stone in Bottega Veneta Fall 2011

Emma Loves Lace...

Emma Stone in Bottega Veneta Fall 2011, 2011 MTV Movie Awards Red Carpet

Yet-to-be-released "The Amazing Spider Man" Actress Emma Stone wore Bottega Veneta Fall 2011 to the 2011 MTV Movie Awards. It was worn--on the runway--by (yes, again!), Miss Carmen Kass (what is up with that???). The cocktail dress, featured black lace overlay and a lemon-yellow strapless dress underneath. I think she looked GREAT! Love the dress on her, love the clutch and the satin-covered pumps.

What do you guys think? Is Emma a "Ten" (Red Carpet Fashion-Wise) or ???

MTV Movie Awards 2011 Red Carpet: Kristen Stewart in Balmain Spring 2011

Red Hot Kristen...

Kristen Stewart in Balmain Spring 2011, 2011 MTV Movie Awards

Actress Kristen Stewart showed up to tonight's MTV Movie Awards wearing a strapless mini dress. But not just any Strapless Mini Dress. A red leather, safety pin studded one from Balmain Spring 2011 designed by no-longer House Designer at Balmain, Christophe Decarmin. For that Spring 2011 Collection, the House of Balmain only showed a jacket version (on Supermodel Carmen Kass) in the same fabric. But on Kristen, it was made into a strapless mini dress. I think it's perfect for the MTV Movie Awards: Rocker Chic-meets-Rebel-Francophile-Couture. The only thing: Is that part of her black bra showing? Not sure if that's supposed to be there. Now, as a designer, I know, that when I design and create dresses like this--there is a BUILT-IN Bustier in the dress, thereby basically telling the wearer "Don't you DARE wear another undergarment". But I realize, sometimes, it's necessary.
What do you guys think? Yeay? Or Nay?
